As the Union Representative, you will be the primary point of contact and advocate for union members across multiple workplaces and sectors throughout Manitoba. You will ensure collective agreements are upheld, investigate and resolve workplace issues and grievances, provide guidance on labour relations matters, and build strong relationships with members, employers, and union leadership. This is a dynamic, field-based role that combines member advocacy, relationship management, and problem-solving. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will manage your assigned territory while delivering exceptional service and support to UFCW members.

 

As the Union Representative, you will:

  • Represent union members across multiple workplaces and sectors throughout Manitoba.
  • Ensure collective agreements are properly administered by interpreting contract language, monitoring compliance, addressing workplace concerns, and protecting member rights.
  • Investigate, manage, and resolve grievances while maintaining ongoing communication with members, shop stewards, union leadership, management, and employers throughout the process.
  • Conduct regular workplace visits and build strong relationships with members while serving as a visible and trusted workplace resource.
  • Provide guidance and support on labour relations matters, health & safety concerns, benefits, pensions, workplace disputes, and other member issues.
  • Support collective bargaining activities, organizing initiatives, and member engagement efforts while partnering closely with negotiators and union leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records, reporting, member information, and documentation while managing a largely self-directed territory and schedule.
  • Deliver exceptional member service through proactive communication, timely follow-up, advocacy, and problem resolution.

 

You and Your Experience:

  • A strong belief in the labour movement and a commitment to supporting workers’ rights, union representation and collective bargaining.
  • Experience in labour relations, human resources, employee relations, union representation, workplace advocacy, or a related people-focused environment.
  • Strong understanding of workplace investigations, collective agreements, grievance processes, conflict resolution, and relationship management.
  • Ability to build credibility and trust with both frontline workers and management while navigating complex workplace situations professionally and objectively.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and practical manner.
  • Highly organized, accountable, and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deliverables, and administrative responsibilities independently.
  • Comfortable working in a high-accountability environment with regular travel throughout Manitoba, occasional evening and weekend commitments, and a responsive member service approach.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport required, with the ability to travel throughout Manitoba and occasionally to the U.S. for conferences, meetings, and union events.
