Role Overview
MML is seeking a Buyer to join its Purchasing team in Hamilton, Ontario. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Procurement and IT, the Buyer will support active construction projects and operations through the purchasing, coordination, expediting, and management of materials, equipment, and supplies.
This position is ideal for a highly organized and detail-oriented purchasing professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced construction environment, coordinating multiple priorities, building strong vendor relationships, supporting project teams, and proactively managing purchasing and delivery-related challenges.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Procure materials, equipment, and supplies to support active construction projects and operations
- Receive and manage material requirements and purchasing requests from internal teams
- Coordinate with Shop Logistics personnel to verify inventory and clarify purchasing requirements
- Create and manage purchase orders based on project and operational needs
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up on deliveries or delayed materials
- Expedite shipments and work with suppliers to resolve delivery, quality, or quantity issues
- Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and vendors
- Evaluate suppliers, pricing, and products to support cost-effective purchasing decisions and project requirements
- Negotiate pricing, delivery timelines, and purchasing requirements with suppliers
- Work closely with Project Managers and Coordinators regarding material requirements, scheduling, and cost control
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies and purchasing-related issues
- Support internal teams with purchasing coordination, reporting, and procurement process improvements
- Prepare and maintain purchasing records, reports, and supplier information
- Ensure purchasing activities align with company policies, quality standards, and operational requirements
What We’re Looking For
- 4–7+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain coordination
- Diploma or degree in Business, Supply Chain, Procurement, or a related field preferred
- Experience working within construction, industrial, mechanical contracting, manufacturing, or other project-based environments
- Exposure to construction materials, mechanical systems, HVAC, or plumbing environments considered an asset
- Experience managing purchase orders, vendors, material deliveries, and supplier coordination
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, along with exposure to ERP or financial systems environments
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and follow-through skills
Compensation Overview
Annual base salary range: $ 65,000 to $ 85,000, aligned to experience and scope of responsibility.
